“No, but don’t tell anyone, okay? You didn’t answer me before so I’m assuming you are great at keeping secrets.

“Absolutely.” She winked at him. She guessed he knew something and maybe he was hoping tonight he’d get her relaxed, sexually excited, which wasn’t going to be too hard, and make her spills the beans. She wouldn’t. She was a professional.

He pulled back the blanket and began making circles on her shoulders. He might not be certified, but he was nevertheless an expert. The circles grew wider and soon his hands were passing over her breasts, his palms rubbing against her nipples making them hard and in fact, achy for even more stimulation.

He rolled them between his thumb and index finger which made her want to touch herself. She’d never wanted to do that sort of thing before when a man had caressed her breasts like this. Her hand hovered near her crotch, but she resisted the temptation. She was sure he’d get to that area soon.

Nick squirted more oil into his palms rubbed them together sliding them down over her navel.

  Heaven. She’d gone to Heaven.

“Sometimes when people get really relaxed they reveal things they wouldn’t normally,” said Nick. His voice sounded deeper, raspy almost.

“And what do you think I have to reveal about myself?”

“I don’t know but I’d like us to get to know one another more.” His hands dipped lower, moving over her crotch.

“I’m petrified of spiders,” she’d barely got out before he separated her legs and moved his hands up and down, making her wetter with each pass.

“Nothing to be scared about. In fact, they’re more frightened of you.”

That’s what her father used to tell her when she’d find one in the bathroom and scream at the top of her lungs for him to come kill it for her.

You want it done, you do it yourself. It’s a big mean world out there Ava and you’ve got to be tough.

It certainly was and she’d found that out several years after he’d shared that piece of advice with her. He’d underestimated just how mean a world it was.

Nick oiled his hands again before touching her thighs and sliding them up toward her folds and down into her pussy. He inserted one very oily and hot finger inside her. She bucked against the massage table. He began to finger fuck her.

She brought her hand up to her mouth and began to suck her own fingers. Nick made her feel things in her body, things about her body that she’d never experienced before. Good things, like her body was special. He made her feel like she was the sexiest woman in the world. Wasn’t that the sort of thing that Mr. Right was supposed to make you feel? She bit down on her finger, masking a groan, but knew there were no neighbors around tonight to bang on the wall and order her to keep it down.

Mr. Right. What if this was him and he was a wolf? Could she still love him?

Love him. Shit, she was falling for him, that’s what she was doing. He wasn’t the person she’d been sent to investigate, but they knew one another. Was falling for a friend of a suspect against Bureau policies?

Her pussy burned, hummed, beat its own pulse. She bucked again when her climax washed over her.

You give in to physical urges too often my girl. Look what happened last time you let a man get into your panties.

She bit her finger again, willing her father’s voice to leave her head.

This was her pleasure, her joy, and she was going to damn well enjoy it while she could.

Ava’s body went rigid, unable to move again until her very lovely climax subsided. Nick was talented with every part of his body, lips, and fingers too, but most of all his cock that he was now sheathing. He parted her legs some more and pulled her toward the end of the table, letting her waiting pussy bump into the very tip of his dick.

The sheet she’d been lying on rumpled underneath her butt. She sat up, wrapping her legs tightly around his hips as he slid into her. He cradled her in his arms as he began a steady thrust.

“I wasn’t aware my pussy was going to get massaged as well, but I’m not complaining,” she said resting her right cheek on his chest.

“Just wait till you get the bill,” he said.

She’d always loved a man with a sense of humor. Top priority for her in fact.

He picked up speed and intensity. She pushed against him, burying her face into his chest, feeling his hair tickle her nose. Loving the heat it radiated back at her, and also the smell. So masculine and comforting too, like he’d protect her from everything bad out there in the world.

She groaned into his skin as her climax began building.

“Do your special thing on me,” she whispered.

“What would that be?” he asked. His lips now rested against the top of her head.

  “The vibrator thingy.”

Maybe that’s why he could do what no other man could. He was part wolf. Did wolves do that to their mates? Oh, dear God I’m imaging all sorts of things, asking myself stupid questions. And now it feels like I’m drunk and sleepy.

He stopped thrusting and did that cock-twirling act she loved so much.

“Ummm,” was all she could muster up to say. She wasn’t sure if she was spinning or the room was twirling around her. She glanced up seeing the stars on the ceiling twinkle. What looked like a planet glowed and it fascinated her but she didn’t know why. She’d studied astronomy at school and in college. Her father even had a telescope in the attic and she’d never seen a planet like that before.

“Ummm,” she murmured again as her leg muscles seized and her first orgasm took over her whole body.

She cried out, clung to Nick, digging her fingers into his back, hoping she wasn’t hurting me, but damn it was so fucking good. Another climax washed over and this time she put her chin toward the ceiling and cried out, bringing about laughter from Nick.

“You obviously want more,” he said.

This couldn’t be real. One long continual climax now. A constant state of arousal and pleasure.

She fell backward. Feeling like her heart was going to beat out of her chest, and her pussy was so slick she was scared it was going to slide out of her body.

“Someone needs a back massage,” said Nick. He pulled out of her and turned her over. He ran his hands up and down her back.

  Sensory overload.

  Was there such a thing?

Nick reached for the bottle of oil and squeezed perhaps a too generous amount in his palms, some dripped on the floor as he ran them over Ava’s buttocks which were the most beautiful ones it had ever been his pleasure to behold.

He moved his hands over her ass, hearing her giggle. Her skin was like porcelain and it glistened as the lights twinkled above. He glanced up momentarily. The human clients didn’t know it but what was projected on the ceiling was the constellation of where their home planet had once been.

Maisey had said that a few of the shifters had actually cried during their massage when they’d seen it, saying how they missed home so much and always would. He missed it too. He took one more look before glancing back down at Ava. Should he make her look up at the ceiling and tell her the truth? Tell her that he believed she was his mate and not to tell anyone, including the Bureau she worked for.

“The action’s stopped,” she said, wiggling her ass at him.

Such a pretty one. He grabbed the bottle of oil and squeezed, draining it of its contents and letting it cascade over her crack.

He parted her cheeks seeing it seep down close to her pussy. That was beautiful too. He needed to get back inside it. Nick pushed himself back into the warmth of her channel.

“Yeah, that’s more like it,” she said.

Some of the oil dripped onto his feet as he pushed farther inside her. She groaned continually as he pounded his way harder and deeper. His release was going to be off the charts. He’d thought things were pretty wild and exciting being in a threesome with Maisey and Lucas, but this was on a whole new level.

  He had to be selfish
this time around so he gave one last thrust and found paradise, almost howling but stopping himself in time. He needed to go running again, but he didn’t want to give her any reason to be suspicious about him. And disappearing after they’d done the need again would certainly do that. He’d have to keep it bottled up inside and run later.

“You spoil me. I’ll want this sort of thing forever and ever.”

It was now or never. He had to ask her.

“You could have it. But first you have to tell me something. A secret that you’re keeping.”

It was worth a shot. She’d been pleasured, oiled, pampered—what woman wouldn’t spill the beans after all that?

She turned around and looked at him.

“You’re right. I do have a secret,” she said.

  “I’m listening.”

“I think I might be falling for you.”

  Chapter Eleven

  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

  Hadn’t she learned her lesson?

Tell a man you were interested in him and he did what men always did. Silence and ended the evening abruptly.

Nick had told her he’d forgotten he had to make an important business call and left. She saw a note pinned on her motel room door. She took it off and skimmed it just enough to ascertain that some other guests had complained about the noise coming from her room and if things didn’t quieten down they’d have to ask her to leave.

Wouldn’t that be embarrassing, to have to find somewhere else to stay and inform her supervisor? She could imagine her father looking down from wherever he was, shaking his head at her.

  Another letdown, Ava, my girl.

She opened the door and went inside.

No fear of any more noises, besides her having the volume on the TV cranked up too much.

  No more Nick.

She couldn’t keep that big mouth of hers shut. Still it wasn’t entirely her fault. What did he expect when he’d given her so many through-the-roof orgasms and her inner sensor had gone out to lunch?

She threw her keys down on the bed. She wanted to go home and she soon would. Either she’d get solid evidence that something weird was happening in Kalispell or she tell them what fucking idiots they were.

Nick ran and ran. The snow and wind burning his face despite his thick fur. He’d been tempted to round up some other shifters to run with him, but he needed to be alone so he could think. With others, they might know what was on his mind and some of the elders would probably offer him advice. He’d never been good at taking that. He knew what they’d say—the group, its secret, safety, and survival came before his desire for this woman.

He stopped and howled. A nearby wolf pack howled back. So easy for the wolves that weren’t shifters. It had been so easy when they’d been their own planet and everyone was a shifter.

Ava had revealed she had feelings for him. They’d crossed that line. Casual dating and sex, heading toward potential mate and things getting to the point of no return where he’d have to sacrifice the group’s interest over his own. A wolf waited a lifetime for this and nothing was going to stand in his way. Truth was he was hurtling toward forty and he wanted a wife and he wanted to be a father.

He’d left her suddenly and she probably thought what a jerk he was. Fucked her and then split. What sort of asshole did that to a woman?

Okay, he’d done that more times than he’d cared to remember. But this was Ava. He began running again, heading toward the safety of his car. It was a beautiful night and he wished she could experience it with him. The stars and the full moon. He stopped and howled again before slowing turning back into his human form.

He leaned over and got his breath back. He’d obviously run too hard because he actually had a stitch in his side. Despite the beautiful night, it was freezing. He grabbed his clothes and got into the car, hearing his cell phone ring.

Nick reached across the passenger seat and grabbed it. He looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Maisey.

  “Hi Maisey,” he said.

“Can you make some of your famous chili and bring it for supper tomorrow?”

  “Sure, no problem.”

“And you’ll need to pick up Ava because she doesn’t know how to get to our place.”

His heart beat faster just hearing her name mentioned.

  “When did you invite her?”

  “Earlier today.”

“You think that’s a good idea? I mean if she’s watching us.”

“That’s why I’m inviting her. I want her to see how normal we are and that way she’ll think we’re human.”

  “I guess that makes sense.”

  “Is something wrong?”

  “No, why?”

“You don’t sound your usual confident self.”

“Just a bit tired that’s all. Working too hard.”

Maisey was his business partner. Both she and Lucas had become good friends to him but what he felt and what was going through his head he had to keep to himself. If they thought that maybe he’d choose Ava over them, well, he couldn’t blame them for stopping him, doing what they had to.

“Okay, see you and Ava tomorrow around six p.m. and don’t forget the chili.”

Ava didn’t feel in the mood for yoga, but she’d paid for six lessons so she was going to drag her butt along to the class. She watched as Maisey showed them the pose. The girl was a born yoga instructor and Ava wished she could get into at least half the positions she showed the class. Guess that’s why they labeled it advanced. Ava did her best to try and copy her but instead wasn’t concentrating and lost her balance and fell on her ass. Maisey looked over at her.

  “You okay?” she asked.

  “Fine, really,” said Ava standing.

“Take a deep breath and come up out of the pose and stretch your arms up.”

Ava’s body ached just a tad today. She thought back to last night and the massage table. Her pussy pulled recalling all the wonderful things Nick had done to her.

“That’s it for this lesson,” announced Maisey.

Ava grabbed her water bottle as Maisey walked over to her.

“Did Nick tell you he’ll be picking you up to bring you for dinner at our place?”

Nick. Her heart beat faster at just the mention of his name. He hadn’t said anything. Well, he still hadn’t called her.

“No, I haven’t spoken to him since last night and he didn’t mention it.”

“Probably before I called him. He’s making his famous chili. You’ll love it.”

Ava smiled. Maisey was such a sweetheart.

Nick’s finger’s hovered over the numbers on his cell phone. She’d told him she was falling for him. He was pretty certain that feeling was mutual, but there was one big hitch, well besides her not being one of his own. She was here on a mission to check out Dane and probably the rest of his buddies.

It would all work out. If this was meant to be, fate would intervene. That was his business mantra and maybe he should extend that to be his love mantra too. Finally taking a stab at the numbers, he soon heard Ava’s voice on the other end. His legs shook just hearing her say her name.

  “Hi, Ava.”

“Nick. Maisey said that you were going to pick me up and drive me to her house.”

“Yeah, that’s why I’m calling. How does five thirty work for you?”

“That’s perfect because I have a report, I mean an article I need to finish and I should be ready.”

  “Hope you like chili.”

  “I love it.”

  “Okay, see you then.”

  “Sure. Oh, and Nick?”

“I had lots of fun last night.”

  “Yeah, me too.”

He put the phone down. Fun. Yeah, he hadn’t let his hair down like that before.

  ****

Ava’s stomach rumbled as she got into Nick’s car and smelled the chili in the slow cooker he’d placed on the floor behind her seat.

“I think I could dive into that right now,” she said as they drove along.

“You’d be in big trouble from Maisey. She and Lucas love this stuff. In fact, I think they might ask me to make a huge batch of it for their wedding dinner.”

“Is Lucas a nice guy? I hope so because Maisey’s so sweet.”

“He really is a great guy. Hard worker and her perfect mate.”

  “Glad to hear that.”

There was a sudden silence. “About what I said last night. I don’t want you to think I’m the sort of woman who becomes overly obsessed after I’ve slept with a guy.”

“I didn’t think that at all. I needed time to think. I’ve been on my own too long.”

  “And why is that?”

  “Lone wolf I guess.”

She turned to look at him. Had he just referred to himself as a wolf?

“Just an expression, you know what I mean?”

She nodded and didn’t know why but she suddenly wanted him to know what happened to her and that she had a son.

“I guess I’ve been leery of good-looking men since high school.”

“You had a bad experience?” asked Nick.

  “I have a son.

He looked at her and she hoped that didn’t make a difference.

“His father was the high school jock. Quarterback on the football team.”

  “And you dated him?”

  Only in my dreams.

“No, I like every other girl in the school was madly in love with him. I guess I should have known something was up when he called me over to walk with him after one of the games. Romantic that I was, I thought maybe he didn’t care about what a person looked like on the outside, he liked me for what was in here.” She touched her chest. “He seemed really nice, talked to me, started to kiss me and then before I knew it we were on the ground having sex. Me having sex with the guy every girl wanted. I was naïve and a virgin and when it was over…”

Ava squeezed her eyes shut because she could still remember those awful minutes after he’d pulled out of her and began laughing. She’d never forget that sound.

Nick reached out and put his hand on hers and squeezed it. She opened her eyes and looked at him.

“When he was done, he took my panties and said he’d need them as proof that he’d gone through with his dare.” She bit her lip. “Fuck the fat girl and do your best not to throw up.”
